Elton, third year diagnostic radiography student at Coventry University,

We asked Elton a few questions about his current journey as a dietetics student. Here’s what he had to say!
My name is Elton, and I am a third-year dietetic student studying at Coventry University. I originally come from Hong Kong, and I studied in the United Kingdom since 2014 in a grammar school in Leicester.
The reason that I chose Dietetics is due to my interest in the role of nutrition in affecting people’s health and my initial passion for promoting healthy eating among the public. Stepping in year 3, I have found year 2 to be very intense and overwhelming in the first semester, as I am accompanied with many courses at the same time while learning dozens of new information are not easy.
Time management is one of the difficult parts that you have to eventually develop across the semester, as the lack of planning will cause you to rush your revision and losing confidence in learning. However, if you managed to achieve the activities and finished the work that course tutors have assigned you to, you will be well competent to accomplish the set coursework deadlines and Objective structured clinical examination.
One of my favourite parts of the course is there is a 3-month placement allocated to you, it could be community and acute hospital setting which you will be able to put the stuff you have learned in university into practice and be more proficient in reflecting what you have done, it is highly valuable to become a reflective practitioner. I find this course to be a highly rewarding course in which not only you will be able to learn the role of nutrition and dietetics in an individual’s health, but it also develops your communication and leadership skills that are essential in every aspect of your life.
A massive thank you to Elton for providing this insight as a third year dietetics student. Keep an eye out on our updates page – we will be hearing from a speech and language therapy student in our next update!!
